MASTERS SWIMMING IN SOUTH SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA
HOME OF THE 2022 AND 2024 MSABC PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The White Rock Wave Swim Club is a competitive masters (age 18+) swim group located in the South Surrey/White Rock area of British Columbia, Canada. We compete at the provincial, national, and international level in pool and open water races. Please note, our rigorous training program is not appropriate for those recovering from injury or surgery. We recommend swimming during recreational hours under the guidance of a medical professional.
Our training program offers the opportunity to swim up to 3 days per week (based on space availability). Wave members select the number of days they'd like to swim per week (and specify which days will be their training days). We presently have about 80 members registered for our coached sessions. Membership preference is given to former and current competitive swimmers. We are not a "Learn to Swim" program but our coaches offer regular technique feedback aimed at improving your strokes, turns, and starts.
We expect our team members to compete in at least 2 MSABC pool meets (during the regular season). Many of our members compete in both pool and open water races throughout the year. Check out more information on the MSABC website.
To join the Wave, you must be able to swim for an hour with a reasonable skill level in all four competitive strokes. You can expect vigorous workouts comprised of interval training, stroke drills, kicking sets, and race pace swims. Our coaches have fitness, fun, and competition in mind during their planning of workouts and endeavour to help swimmers reach their personal goals. Our open water training includes advice about gear, racing strategies, and small group training.
The following equipment is regularly used in training: hand paddles, pullbuoy, kickboard, and fins. You should also have goggles and a water bottle. Be sure to check out our FAQ page for more details about expectations.
Looking for triathlon training? Check out the Peninsula Multisport group. Our swim sets incorporate all four competitive strokes. If you are looking for training that is more oriented to freestyle, check out a triathlon training group.
We currently have a full roster for the 2024-25 season. Prospective members may put their name on the waiting list. Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page. Don't forget to tell us a little bit about your swimming background. Wave team members train at Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre in South Surrey. Team members typically train 2-3 days a week on a set schedule.
Fall Training Days and Times:
Sunday 9 - 10:30 am; Sunday 10 - 11 am
Monday - Thursday 8 - 9 pm.
If you are interested in open water swimming, please indicate that when completing the form at the bottom of this page. Our open water training runs May-October and is free to Wave team members. We swim primarily at Sasamat, Buntzen, and Crescent Beach.

New members are required by the City of Surrey to be insured by
SwimBC
for a fee of $64.00 per year (2024-25 season). This fee covers insurance for the swimmers for all travel to and from meets, practices, and any other functions organized by the club, as well as your water time during workouts. With registration you will receive a regular online newsletter with all of the updates of happenings within our provincial association, as well as the online Swimming Canadian newsletter.
This fee also allows you to enter meets anywhere in the world throughout the year. If you are a traveller, you can provide your Swimming Canada registration number and ask to join a Masters' workout at any pool in the world. Some may charge a small drop-in fee, but most are more than eager to have you join them for a practice. A list of pools and programs offered in the US is available on the USMS website under "find a pool."
Swimmers join for a three-month period and pay fees in advance. Fees work out to about $8-9 per hour of coached swimming. There are no refunds or credit for missed days.
